[REVIEW] make p:rem x CrediThink Tamanu Calming Serum

Hi!
Welcome back to my blog. This Tuesday, I’m gonna talking about a product I’ve been testing for a month.

So, what you know about Tamanu oil? I’m sure this thing is currently hyped up this year because of that ‘you-know-who’ K-brand released a serum that contains Tamanu oil as its main ingredients. I personally haven’t tried it yet just because of the price tag. It’s quite expensive for me.

I’m not a newbie to Tamanu oil, though. I’ve tried using this oil back in 2018 when I had a minor burnt scar caused by my neglection in the previous workplace. I once heard that Tamanu oil could heal a scar and facial oil was really a thing that time. It did help on healing my burnt scar, but it didn’t help on fading it.

Quoted from healthline.com, tamanu oil is extracted from seeds that grow on a tropical evergreen called a tamanu nut tree. Tamanu oil and other parts of the tamanu nut tree have been used medicinally for hundreds of years by certain Asian, African, and Pacific Island cultures. Tamanu oil has long been believed to have a number of health and beauty benefits, from wound healing to healthier hair. Tamanu oil is also rich in antioxidants, which have been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of scarring, as well as acne. For the complete information, you can google it 😊

Last October, I was chosen to be one of reviewers for this make p:rem x CrediThink Tamanu Calming Serum* on the event held by CrediThink itself. I was beyond excited because I always wanted to try a tamanu oil serum and this time I got the chance!

So, let’s begin with the review.

TEXTURE, SCENT AND COLOR

This serum is a new thing for me! It has a thick rather than runny consistency. I prefer to use this after the other light skincare products underneath.

The color itself is like an avocado green. See the picture below. It’s beautiful, huh?

The scent! OMG, this scent brings back memories I had with the pure tamanu oil I used in 2018. It’s a deep nutty, woody and herby scent. I call it smells like “jamu” in Indonesian; a traditional herb drink that often drank when you’re sick. Though it contains Lavender EO, Bergamot EO and others, well that might help with the scent. But the original and unique scent of Tamanu oil is still there.

MY THOUGHTS AND EXPERIENCES

This is the thickest serum I have right now. So, I tried using it as a morning moisturizer, hence the thick consistency. The scent disappears as soon as I layer it with a sunscreen. So, it doesn’t matter anymore.

The serum absorbs pretty quick and it doesn’t sit on top. It feels light and shrinks down well to the skin. My oily skin likes it because it is hydrating enough on the day time without clogging the pores. But there are some days when my skin is dehydrated, I don’t find it enough without layering another moisturizer on top of it.

Talking about the soothing effect this serum has, I’m a little bit confused how to explain. When your skin is flushed and irritated, you will immediately grab for something that’s cooling and soothing, right? For example, a soothing mist that quickly ‘calms down’ the skin’s temperature. This serum doesn’t work that way.  It doesn’t lower the heat you feel, but it does slowly lessen the redness on your skin. That’s what happens to my skin.

I first thought this serum is doing nothing but moisturizing. There are days when I wake up with a slightly flushed skin, plus I always cleanse my skin using a cleanser in the morning. My skin appears to get better on the day time after I use this serum. Do you know what I mean? I’m sorry, I’m terrible at explaining things.

The other thing I experience with this Tamanu Calming Serum is this keeps my skin barrier on checked. My skin rarely gets irritated nowadays.

Oily skin will love this, especially for a day time moisturizer. For drier skin, you need to layer it with an occlusive cream afterward.
